Summer wardrobe: take 2.

So this will be great. My summer wardrobe is going to be a healthy mix of my pre-teen years, Abercrombie and Fitch (see my last post) and my future PTO-board self, Ann Taylor. The best part about it? I really could care less. Because, LET'S DISCUSS ANN TAYLOR LOFT.

First things first, they are always having a major sale. Like this weekend, everything is 30% off. (40% if you're a cardholder)...So, that's rad. Second, not only does everything run true to size, if anything it runs big...and who doesn't love saying "I need the next size down". Finally, the shit holds up!!! It's all super comfortable, easy to care for, and fits great. Do you want me to keep talking or should I just stop so you can shop?

**Edit: To all the mommy's out there-- Loft has a ton of nursing friendly tops and sweater.  Be watching for a blog post soon on this!

current {Summer} obsessions

It's the summer I've been waiting 14 years for: the return of Birks and overalls. I mean, my ultimate wish of it being Limited Too overalls and floral print Birkenstocks clearly isn't what's back but hey, I'll take what I can get! I wish I could remember why I thought the summer of '00 was the best summer of my life but I couldn't tell you. I don't remember a particular story, person, or reason that made it so great but in my mind, it was.

I've got a good feeling about the Summer of '14 this time around and to get me ready for it, I've highlighted just a few of my favorite things {at the moment} to make this Summer just as memorable as the one 14 years ago.

What was your year? What year will forever be in your memory as a year you will never forget? A year that you can safely say you were happy 99% of the time?

Summer Glow

All above products from Beauty Counter

Let's face it, I have always struggled with my skin. I've spent countless dollars on cremes, lotions, dermatologist appointments, doctors, everything under the sun just to make a few blemishes go away. While playing competitive sports all throughout high school, I majorly struggled with "sports induced acne"...I'm sorry but W.T.F? Let it be known, there is NOTHING a teenage girl loves more than acne on her spine or chest...really brings all the boys out! Acne in your teenage years is a part of growing up. The few people that don't suffer from it, and we all remember 'those' people, are the lucky few.

The older I get the more I realize that blemishes happen, they pop up from time to time and after years of thinking there's nothing I could do about it, I found this. Not only do I feel like it is a grown-ups version of ProActiv but, the story behind the company is what makes me a believer. Did you know; "The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938?" I'm sorry, what? We care so much about the food we put into our bodies and that of our children and family but when it comes to what we put ON our bodies, we have dropped the ball. We do not care what it is, if it is harmful or not, we just do it and most of us pay an obscene amount of money for this.

Thank God for my fabulous cousin for introducing me to Beauty Counter and all the glory behind it. No, the prices are not drug store prices but they are FAR from department store prices. If you are still looking for that perfect skin (and hair!) care line that clears up your skin, I can't say enough good things about this company.  Take a chance,  you never know what might happen.

Facing our fears

A few weeks ago, I had to come to terms with something all of us have had to deal with...I do not have the same 17-year-old volleyball body that I once had. Yes, I have always been fit and in shape but I don't look the same in a 2 piece like I once did. Not only that but my "pool days" are different then when I was 17. I am no longer lounging poolside, with my only obligations being to turn every 30 minutes, make sure my oil is applied evenly, and to make sure my shades are on point.  No, no. If I am not running around chasing my 2 year-old or 5 year-old niece, then I am most likely sitting in a pool drinking the day away. Neither one of these activities calls for a 2 piece.

The last one-piece I owned was the one I had to wear to swim class in High School (I later wore it for fraternity float trips as a joke, it was that bad). So the idea of looking at one-pieces made me want to jump off the nearest cliff. (thankfully, KCMO has no cliffs, whatsoever.)You can imagine then how I felt trying to find the perfect one-piece. Something that doesn't scream "look at me! I've let myself go!"

I am here to tell you, cute one-piece suits are out there! You CAN wear them and still feel good, and better yet, some of the cutest ones are the cheapest ones!
