Top 5 Boyfriend Jeans

Mastering the boyfriend jean can be a dangerous game especially when it comes to finding that perfect pair of lived-in, baggy Boyfriend jeans. Below are some tips to keep in mind when looking for your soon-to-be favorite part of jeans.

1.You always want a pair that is tailored at the ankle. "Slim straight" or "skinny" boyfriend jeans are what you always want to look for. When they aren't tailored at the ankle you run the risk of them truly looking like you are wearing jeans that are way too big.

2. Make sure they fit in the waist. Denim of all nature will stretch and grow with your body so you always want to make sure the waist fits.

3. A BF jean tends to run a little bit higher in the rise, which is what you want. The whole point of this jean is for them to be slouchy and give that laid back feeling. So, when it is a low rise BF jean you run the risk of the jean just looking like they are too big in just the butt and knees, which is never a good look (can we say mom jeans?). And dare I mention the wretched M word...muffin top?

4. Distressing. A very evil word when it comes to denim. What is too much? What is not enough? I believe that H & M and 7 For All Mankind (both seen below) have the best distressing. It's enough for anyone, of any age.

5. Finally, how do you wear your BF jeans? If you really want a more laid back look, wear them with a baggy tee, but make sure you are wearing something with a heel. (we don't want it to look like we really don't give a damn about anything!). Or, wear them with a cute flat sandal (my new favorite Birkenstocks) and a more fitted tee, maybe even tucked it.

Home

hat: Milk & Honey Boutique// Jeans: Seven for all Mankind// Chambray shirt: J. Crew // Tee: Home Tee.// Jacket: Kate Spade // Shoes: Rebecca Minkoff // City: Chicago

I have been beyond fortunate to be able to call some fabulous places 'Home'. I lived in London for 3 months while studying abroad (and left a little bit of my heart there), lived in Dallas on 2 different occasions to total 4 great year (although I could not get out of there fast enough). Houston was probably the low point in my family's living situation but I was able to experience a pool in my backyard which, at 6 years old, is on a totally different level.

I went to college at the University of Missouri and lived in Columbia for 4 amazing years. Columbia is where I found my people. The people that pushed me to be a better person, the people that loved me just the way I (and my family) was, and the people that would never leave my side.

After college I needed to "find myself" (news flash: you never really 'find' yourself and a tip of advice, you definitely won't find her 10 bud lights deep in a bar.) so I moved to Chicago. Chicago lasted all of 12 months but it changed me. It made me grow up and force me out of my comfort zone. I learned about heartbreak, admitting fault, and knowing when it's time to let things go.

I live in Kansas City now and it is my childhood. I grew up here, found my husband here, bought a house here, and where I hope to raise my family. I get gitty when I hear 'start me up' by the Rolling Stones (only chiefs fans will understand), and crave having barbecue sauce roll down my arms. I've lived here for close to 20 years and as many bad memories as some of these streets hold for me, I always look forward to coming home.

However, if you were to ask me "where are you from?" With a defiant answer, it is always 'Fairhope'. Fairhope, Alabama is where I was born and where my dad's side of the family still resides. It is a perfectly quaint small utopia on the Mobile bay. Everyone knows everyone else's business and at any given moment you're bound to run into someone you grew up with. There is something about the crisp southern air that makes everything okay. When I'm there, I move slower, talk slower, and just breathe. I long for walks on the pier at dusk and yearn for dinners that last too long on my grandma's porch.

Last weekend I traveled to Chicago for a dear friends wedding weekend and I combined 3 of my most favorite things. I wore my Alabama tee that was given to me by my best friend, whom I met in Columbia, on my way to a friends wedding in Chicago. Roll this outfit up, put a bow on it and call me happy.

2 sides to every story

Hat: Milk & Honey Boutique // Jeans: 7 For All Mankind// Shoes: Converse // Jacket: Kate Spade// Denim Jacket: 7 For All Mankind, similar here// Oxford: Kate Spade // Watch: Michele //Bracelets: J. Crew, Kate Spade, Jade bangles from Beijing and Taiwan, Beaded-DIY

"It takes 2 to tango", "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde", "There are 2 sides to every story".

Where fashion is concerned, there is nothing more beautiful than both sides of the story. I own more pairs of boyfriend jeans than I care to share (6), enough baggy Tee's that Rapunzel herself would have slack if she tied them all together, and roughly 5 pairs of beat up old Converse. I am not a high fashion wearing kind of gal. That does not mean that I don't covet Isabel Marant, dream in Givenchy, have Carl Lagerfeld on my 'short list' of people I'd like to have a drink with, and have a mad girl crush on Deborah Lloyd.

Lloyd's 'where in the world is Kate Spade' idea for this year has gotten my attention and my girlie-girl side is smitten. This month's theme is Paris, and the colors are what my dreams are made of...I can have my cake and eat it too!

P.S. It's colder than Sh*t in KC.
